US Military Begins Transition Out Of Haiti

US military forces have begun transitioning out of Port Au Prince and its outlying regions. The number of troops currently in Haiti is close to 1,300, down from a post quake high of 22,000. The plan is to have rotating Coast Guard troops numbering approximately 500 handle the bulk of the peacekeeping and relief work, with support from other US military branches when necessary.

The massive roll-out has been met with mixed feelings, with many Haitians feeling that their best chances to rebuilding life safely are traveling out of Haiti with the military personnel.
